Form I-9 (The Employment Eligibility Verification Form) is a vital document used by employers in the United States to verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment.
It is a mandatory requirement for all U.S. employers, encompassing both citizens and non-citizens. Both the employees themselves and the employers (or authorized representatives) are responsible for completing this form accurately and thoroughly.
By properly completing Form I-9 for each new hire, employers ensure compliance with regulations and demonstrate their commitment to maintaining a legal and authorized workforce.

The I-9 form is a Federal Homeland Security document and such forms are NOT to be stamped by a notary public.
A notary is acting as an Authorized Representative on the employer's behalf and not a representative of the federal government. Simply, I-9 forms are to never be notarized and doing so can a notary to loose their commission and face penalties and fines.
In addition, employers can include an additional page requesting information on the notary. This page is separate from the I-9 form.
